Happy New Year! Hope you all had a lovely holiday. Let's start things off by catching up with the Garfunkles, why don't we? They actually have a decent-sized update, this time.

As usual, we start off with a picture of most of my Simlets skilling. Not much happening here the first day of winter -- but that Cuisine hobby marker above Amanda's head gives me an idea. She has a membership card -- off to a hobby lot!

Welcome to Sue's Secret Kitchen, which -- actually looks halfway decent for a hobby lot. Two kitchens, dining room, bar, food contest table, candymaker, and a Hobby Lot Leader who actually seems to give a shit. (It wasn't obvious in the last update, but even the gaming one spent a lot of time in front of a TV.)

Amanda: My first woohoo was the best of my life!
Hobby Leader Sharlene Royce: Uh, that wasn't the response I expected when I asked 'what's cooking?'

For all her enthusiasm, Amanda actually doesn't have all that many points in Cooking. She decides she needs to prove herself by rolling up wants to make and eat pancakes. You just had a pancake breakfast, hon, but what the hell, you're one of my harder Sims to keep happy. (Pleasure Sims. Gah.)

Sharlene: Professional chefs make bags of money. BAGS. Stay on this path, grasshopper.
Amanda: What does that even mean?
Sharlene: Damned if I know -- the typist in the sky doesn't watch martial arts flicks.

While we're here, we may has well get plastered. Though, you know, there's a wine -- excuse me, NECTAR -- bar right in the corner. Why don't you crack open the good stuff?
Amanda: Because I'm terrified I'll have to sell my plasma for a glass.
Point -- you guys aren't exactly rolling in simoleons.

To make up the money she spent on pancake ingredients and "juice," Amanda decides to make some fancy candies.

ImageFra.me
And stuff as many as possible in her mouth. (Admit it, this your favorite part of using the candy machine.)

Back at home -- more skilling! To be fair, Sam does has to get some basic skills up -- Simon will be a teenager soon, and that's when Sam can get a job.

ImageFra.me
I think that's worth a bit more than the $79 or so it sold for. I mean, look at the age of this kid!

ImageFra.me
Sam, for his part, has recently learned how to make Grandma's Comfort Soup. Simon and Carey approve. Messily.

ImageFra.me
Simon decided he wanted a friend over, and invited Linda to come play. Linda had to bring her Mom to watch over her, of course. Amusingly, Marty chose this moment to wander by -- didn't invite him in, though. So you need to come to your daughter's playdate, but your youngest son is allowed to roam free? *has no idea what this means vis-a-vis Linda's "unfavorite" status*

Lorraine judges your cops and robbers game.

ImageFra.me
Simon: Ahaha, you got me, copper!
Linda: Yeah, I shot you. I shot you DEAAAAD.
Simon: . . .You scare me sometimes, Linda.

ImageFra.me
But not enough to stop a friendship from forming!

ImageFra.me
Red hands -- a really stupid game, or a really awesome game? I mean, it's all about slapping hands, but it fills up Fun like nothing else.

ImageFra.me
Simon spares a moment to greet his promoted-to-waitress mother home from work. Also, it is snowing! Everyone is entranced!

ImageFra.me
Even people who are. . .inside, and. . .away from any windows. . .
Sims are WEIRD.

ImageFra.me
Lorraine: If I'd known it was going to be this cold out, I would have worn a warmer dress!
Yeah, you think since you guys can be psychic sometimes, you'd be smarter.

ImageFra.me
Sam: So, I was looking through my bookshelf today, and I happened to stumble across something called Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. . . .
This is him actually making best friends with Cheshire -- I just didn't get a shot of the actual icon.

ImageFra.me
I do, however, get a proper shot of Carey making best friends with Victor! Hooray, Victor can has all the friends!

ImageFra.me
And, of course, we end on more skilling. And a snowstorm.

Okay, that wasn't too bad, wasn't it? Next time is the Leeches, and this time we should be able to give Lucy a birthday! Finally, trading some of these kids for teenagers -- that's when the interesting stuff will happen.
